Mould...Friend or Foe?
MOULD??? The Short Answer.
The common health concerns from molds include hay fever-like allergic symptoms. Certain individuals with chronic respiratory disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, asthma) may experience difficulty breathing. Individuals with immune suppression may be at increased risk for infection from molds. If you or your family members have these conditions, a qualified medical clinician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment. Are there any circumstances where people should vacate a home or other building because of mold? These decisions have to be made individually. If you believe you are ill because of exposure to mold in a building, you should consult your physician to determine the appropriate action to take.
These DIY Test Kits are a good medium to sample your indoor air at a given time, a "picture in time". These Test Kits help you to test part of what you are breathing in your home at that time, in that spot. To find out if you have hidden mould that may affect you now or in the future, this may take professional evaluation and an intrusive inspection.
Our Mould In Air Test Kits can be used for sampling the air ducts in your house and either a small; medium or large houses. When you use these kits to sample your Indoor Air Quality we reccomend using one of the samples to sample the outdoor air to use this as a "benchmark" test. The "benchmark" test is used to evaluate if you have more mould inside than you do outside and also any different kinds of mould inside than you do outside. Detailed instructions come with the kits. Essentially the kit is opened for 1 hour in the given area, closed and kept warm (20-25 degrees) for 3-4 days. If your samples have "captured" any mould you will see it starting to grow in the plate. You then have the option of purchasing a lab report for any or all of the samples that you have taken. For a better overall test, always include your "benchmark" test when you send the samples to the lab.
Our Visible Mould Test Kit is designed for people who have visible mould and they want to know what kind of mould it is. This can be helpful to know what you may be breathing and it may aid you in your decision as to whether you will personally cleanup the mould (we always reccomend proper safety equipment and training) or immediately transfer it to a proffesional. There may of course be hidden mould that you have not sampled that may affect you now or in the future, this may take professional evaluation and an intrusive inspection.
